Pink n Plastic

I have never been particularly fond of pink and plastic - the two as separate entities are OK in general its just when they combine as one that the effect tends to make me gag. So far I have pretty much managed to steer clear of the stuff throughout my own and my baby's pretty little life, however, the time has come. River has recently informed me both through her general choices in life along with phrases such as 'I need that' - that pink and plastic is on trend for two year olds and i have no choice but to join the ranks.

So with her 2ND birthday coming up the time has come to focus a little less on Topshop, Whistles, French Connection, Alexander McQueen, Todd Lynn, Phillip Lim, Givenchy, Derek Lam, Christian Dior, etc etc etc.... ahem, and focus my attention instead on...

Toys R Us.

An Iron and ironing board?.... I'm sorry but what am I saying to my little girl if I present her with this? 'Yes an iron is a toy and feel free to play with mine as well.... and also 'ironing is fun and something to aspire to'... no. No toy irons.

A pretend microwave?.... please see above.

A pretend kitchen?.... er, please see above.

A pretend hoover?... well she just plays with the real one already and besides... please see above.

But wait ... what's this? Ah Hah!!!!! The perfect pink and plastic thing for my daughter EVER!!!

Thank God for that... a sensible present that will teach her all about the important things in life. I think I can forgive the pink.

'Fat bottom girls you make this rocking world go round.'

Ok - so here it is - the much anticipated (by a number of magazines) and raved about (by editors) Long Line Leather Biker Jacket at Whistles. At £350 smackers you can only get it in a UK size 10 online at the moment and the said magazines are predicting it will be a sell out.

Maybe it will be - but i'm at a loss. To me this is the most unflattering cut I've EVER seen for a biker jacket. Ok - so it's different - and I'm sure Agyness Deyn and/or Alexa Chung will be snapped pulling it off in some cool knobbly knee waif like manner - but to my eye it even makes the invisible mannequin in this picture look like it's had a big Christmas dinner and is struggling with gas.

Done up it looks really awkward - it would drown a petite skinny minnie and bulk up an average size 12 or over. Worn open it could look ok, but done up I just don't get it... it's like the biker jacket for self conscious, try-hard, wanna be 'hip-chicks' (cringe) that want to cover their bums. ZZ Top would not approve.

So no - for me this really really does NOT work.... I love you Whistles but this is £350 too far.

Watch this space for future pics of anyone i see wearing this and proving me wrong...:)

D & G on the rocks please.

I am absolutely adoring Dolce and Gabbana's current ad campaign... these are a selection of half pages (they are all actually double spreads) from the September issues of Harpers Bazaar, Vogue and Elle UK, mostly appearing against the glitzy backdrop of a casino... loving the opulent colour scheme. They make me want to go back in time to 'old school' Las Vegas and hang around the one arm bandits wearing fake fur and tutu's.

Hmmm. The nearest I'll get to this right now is the arcade at South Mimms service station.... it could work...

So you may (or may not) remember my post a while back lusting after the above shoes.... well... I was pouring over one of my favourite fashion books; 'fashion illustration by fashion designers' by Laird Borelli, to pull out some of my favourites illustrations to blog about, when i realised that the majority of my favourites were by Riccardo Disci for Givenchi. So stunning are they that I am on the hunt for larger prints of two of them - the black and yellow beauty and the top one - to frame and hang in my house. Anyway, I decided instead to just show his works and I will leave the original idea for another time. If anyone knows if and where I might get my hungry hands on the prints mentioned PLEASE please comment and let me know! Thanking you!

Elle Daily Buy / ELLEuk.com recommendation...

Striped sweater £198 by Sonia By Sonia Rykiel

Say's Elle: 'Update your wardrobe for the new season with a classic knit from Sonia by Sonia Rykiel. The autumn alternative to the striped Breton top, team this one with cigarette pants or skinny, ankle grazer jeans and a chic pair of patent, tassle front loafers.'

Urmmmm... is it just me or is this a ridiculous and gross recommendation? In my humble opinion (;0)) this is an average boring sweater normally available EVERY winter in your highstreet M &S, H & M or BHS..... £198 fricking quid - are you having a laugh?! What I would buy with £198... NOT a boring stripey sweater, and I don't care how well it's been made or what it's made of.... B O R I N G. And it's verging on maroon. Yuk.

(I'm also reluctant to post such an ugly thing on my otherwise beautiful site - I'll have to update it soon as I can't have this monster headlining it.)

If you knew.

If you knew the depths of your destruction - would you still have tossed that coin?
If you knew what you were stealing - would you still be so greedy?
If you knew you had held a fortune - would you still spend it on a thrill?
If you knew that your selfishness was violence - would you still have thrashed?

Did you realise the power behind your weakness?
I wish you had.

I wish you hadn't.
